Hair Loss Cause: Genetic

Medical Term: Androgenic Alopecia

Genetic hair loss is passed down to you from your parents.  This hair pattern on the scalp is also identified with hormonal hair loss. An enzyme called 5-alpha-reductase attaches itself to testosterone to form DHT which forces affected follicles into a resting cycle and shrinks the follicle.
  • Hair Loss Pattern

This type of hair loss is gradual and appears only on the top part of the scalp.  Most common starting points are the hair line, temples, middle path and crown area.
  • Is this treatable

Most people only start looking for treatments for this type of hair loss 7 - 10 years after it started.  It is imperative that this type of hair loss is addressed early.  We are able to regrow what was lost within the past 5 - 7 years.
